Yorkshire College supports students aged 16 and over. Safeguarding, welfare and student safety are part of the college's daily responsibilities. Students aged 16 and 17 are treated as under-18 students and are supported through the college safeguarding procedures.

Our safeguarding responsibility

Yorkshire College aims to provide a safe, respectful and supportive learning environment. Staff should act on welfare concerns, listen to students, and report safeguarding concerns to the Safeguarding Lead.

What students should always do

• Attend classes and activities on time.
• Follow college instructions and classroom rules.
• Keep emergency contact details up to date.
• Tell staff if they feel unsafe, worried, unwell or at risk.
• Tell staff about any change to accommodation, travel, visa or contact details.

What students should never do

• Smoke where smoking is prohibited.
• Buy or drink alcohol illegally.
• Take drugs or bring illegal substances to college.
• Bully, harass, threaten or abuse another person.
• Put themselves or other people at risk.

Under-18 students

Students aged 16 and 17 should speak to staff if they need help with welfare, accommodation, attendance, health, travel, or contact with parents or guardians. Parents or guardians may be contacted where appropriate.

If there is an emergency and a member of staff is not immediately available, call the UK emergency services on 999.
