Yorkshire College Charter for Students
Yorkshire College aims to provide an individual learning experience and a safe, supportive environment for students. The wellbeing, development and progress of our students are of primary importance.
Statement of Educational Purpose
Yorkshire College is an independent English school based in Leeds, United Kingdom, offering English language courses to international students aged 16 and over.
Admission Policy
- Students must be at least 16 years old.
- An application form must be completed.
- An up-to-date passport must be provided.
- All students must complete an accurate medical form and inform Yorkshire College of any issue that may affect learning, welfare or attendance.
- Students must update Yorkshire College about changes to visa status, arrival times or relevant personal information.
- It is the student's responsibility to apply for the correct visa. Yorkshire College is not responsible for visa refusals.
- All students must agree to follow the policies of the school.
Payment Policy
The tuition fee will be stated in the invoice. Payments must be made in advance for both tuition and accommodation. Yorkshire College is not liable for cancelled bookings due to unpaid fees.
UK law requires 20% VAT to be charged for services consumed in the UK, including English courses.
Self-funded students must pay the required deposit before a booking is confirmed. Sponsored students must provide a letter of acceptance or sponsorship confirmation.
Student Cancellation and Refund Policy
Course and accommodation fees are handled separately. The school must be notified of cancellations at least two weeks in advance.
A £100 registration fee is always charged. Late cancellations will incur two weeks' tuition deduction in addition to the registration fee.
Refunds require official documentation, such as a visa refusal letter or medical reports. See the full policy PDF for detailed cancellation terms.
Visa Refusal
Refunds linked to visa refusal require official refusal documentation. Students are responsible for applying for the correct visa and for following UK visa rules.
Postponing
Courses start on Mondays, or Tuesdays after a public holiday. Students must inform the school of any delays and provide updated travel or visa information at least one week in advance.
Attendance and Punctuality
Minimum 80% attendance is expected. Absences and lateness without valid reason may lead to disciplinary action. Sponsors may be informed where relevant.
Classes and Teaching
Students are placed based on level. Yorkshire College may merge or split classes during the term. Students cannot choose teachers or classes. Decisions by the Director of Studies are final.
Holidays
Holidays must be requested at least two weeks in advance. Unauthorised holidays count as absences. There are no refunds for public holidays or the Christmas break.
Insurance
Students must arrange their own insurance. Yorkshire College recommends travel or student insurance covering medical needs and personal property.
Accommodation
Accommodation is provided by third parties. Students must review and comply with the accommodation provider's terms and rules.
UK Visas Compliance
Students are responsible for obtaining a valid visa. Contact information and immigration status updates must be reported to the school immediately. Students should refer to gov.uk for visa guidance.
Privacy and Data Protection
By enrolling, students agree to Yorkshire College storing and processing their personal data. This includes education, medical, visa and contact details. Data may be shared with necessary parties under lawful conditions or in emergencies. The school complies with the Data Protection Act 2018.
Photographs and Filming
Students must notify Yorkshire College in writing if they do not consent to their photos or videos being used in promotional materials. The school is not responsible for other students sharing images on social media.
